How big should the marquee for the event be?

If you have arranged events before, you properly know how large a marquee you need for your upcoming events. If not, we offer a little advice on the matter here. The size of a marquee depends on several things - where are you going to have the marquee, how many people are attending the event, are they going to sit down at tables to eat, is it a standing reception and do you need room to display products, a scene for presentation, room for a buffet, and so on.

Here you can see how much room you should calculate. In general, always calculate for a little extra room – for safety as well as for comfort.

For an exhibition, product launch, a reception or similar event, where people stand up, estimate app. 0.75 m² pr. person. More or less the same is they are seated in rows in front of a scene.

When you have tables and chairs in the marquee, estimate app. 1 m² pr. person.

Always remember to make room for products, a scene, a buffet and more. Reserve app. 10-20% of the total area for these things – more if you have large products on display.

For safety reasons we recommend that you fasten your marquee with a Safety Pack containing storm straps and ground pegs – you will need app. 2-3 meters free space around your marquee on all 4 sides if possible.

We recommend 4 storm straps for marquees under 8 metres and 6 straps for marquees over 8 metres.

Always check the weather forecast before putting up a marquee!

Extend your marquee or pop-up gazebo

When you need more room than one marquee or pop-up gazebo can provide, you can combine two or more tents and create all the space you need for the event. In short, if you have the space to put up the marquees, you can have all the room you need as most of our marquees and pop-up gazebos can be combined infinitely. Please note that you will get the best result if you combine two or more marquees/pop-up gazebos of the same size and type – same measurements and same materials. If you combine two different types of tents, there is a risk that the structures are too different to fit properly.

Seal the gap between the marquees with a rain gutter

When you combine two or more marquees or pop-up gazebos, always seal the gap at the top between the two structures with a rain gutter. If not, water will run down into the tent in case of rain during the event. Please make sure that you order the right kind and size of rain gutter as we offer several different types for the various marquees!

Never have too many people inside a marquee

When you arrange an event, always make an estimation of the number of people you expect to visit or participate in the event. If you have too many people inside the marquee or pop-up gazebo, it will not be safe or pleasant. In case of an emergency, it is important that you have exits with clear signs so everybody can find the fastest way out. In general, you will have more ambience if the marquee or pop-up gazebo is not crowded. Be sure to make enough room for people to move around if you have people sitting at tables eating – or if you have staff serving food and more.

Safety plays an important part at any event

When you arrange an event inside a marquee or a pop-up gazebo, always be sure to fasten the structure using storm straps and ground pegs. Our marquees and pop-up structures are very different when it comes to materials, but both kinds are lightweight and can be moved or turned over in case of strong wind – the pop-up gazebos even in light wind. That is why we recommend that you always fasten your marquee and pop-up gazebos even when the weather forecast predicts calm weather.
