Safety - Secure your garden shed

After you have assembled your garden shed, you need to fasten it to the ground or base using anchors or similar so the shed will be safe in all kind of weather. Most of our garden sheds are lightweight structures made of strong and durable materials. It means that the shed will last for many years but you need to secure it as it can be damaged or turned over in case of strong wind. If you live in an area with snow, we recommend that you strengthen your metal shed with rafters inside – it will fortify the shed so the snow load is much higher. In case of wet and heavy snow, we still recommend that you remove snow from the roof of your garden shed to prevent damage.

How to fasten your shed to a gravel foundation

Most of our garden sheds must be secured and fastened to the ground to prevent accidents and damage. If you have a shed on top of a cast foundation, you simply drill holes and use anchors or screws to fasten the shed to the base. The same goes for a wooden deck unless you want to be extra careful and fasten the shed to the ground below the deck. If you have placed the shed on stamped gravel, you start by making holes where the anchors should be. Put some gravel into the bottom and slide in a sonotube or similar to form it up. Fill the tube with concrete and place the galvanized anchor brackets in before the concrete sets.

Lockable garden sheds – and security lighting

Most of our garden sheds can be locked – some of the sheds has a built-in lock in the door – others have fittings so you can lock the shed with a pad lock. This will secure your garden tools, machines, bikes and more. To make it more difficult for a potential thief, make sure that the area around the garden shed is well lit – maybe with a floodlight which will light up the area around the shed if somebody comes close. At the same time, the light will help you see where you are going when you need to go into the shed in the dark.
