Which size of marquee should I choose?

Marquee guide

How large your marquee should be is depending on several things – where do you want to put up the marquee, how many people are attending the event, are they going to sit down to eat, is it a reception, do you need room for a buffet, a band, and so on. Below you can see how much room you should calculate – and if you have the option, always calculate for a little extra room – for safety as well as for comfort.

For a reception or similar event, where people stand, estimate app. 0,75 m² pr. person.

When you have tables and chairs in the marquee, estimate app. 1 m² pr. person. Always remember to take into account room for a buffet, bar, music etc. Reserve app. 10-20 % of the total area for these things.

For safety reasons, we recommend that you fasten your marquee with a Safety Pack containing storm straps and ground pegs – you will need app. 2-3 meters free space around your marquee on all 4 sides if possible.

We recommend 4 storm straps for marquees under 8 metres and 6 straps for marquees over 8 metres.

Always check the weather forecast before putting up a marquee!

Most of our marquees can be combined infinitely

In short, if you have the space for the marquees, we can provide all the room you need as most of our marquees can be combined infinitely. Just combined two or more marquees and you are ready to have the most wonderful event well sheltered from the sun and the rain. We recommend that you only combine two or more marquees from the same series – same measurements and same materials - otherwise there is a risk that the structures are too different to fit properly. If in doubt, call our Xperts who can help you.

Seal the gap between the marquees with a rain gutter

Please be aware than when you combine two or more marquees, it is a good idea to seal the gap at the top between the two structures with a rain gutter, which you can order separately. If not, the water will run down into the marquee in case of rain during the event. NB! Be sure to order the right kind and size of rain gutter as we offer several types for the various marquees!

Never have too many people inside a marquee

When you plan an event, make sure how large a marquee you have room for before sending out the invitations. If the marquee is too crowded, the ambience will soon vanish, and it is a potential hazard having too many people inside a marquee in case of an emergency. It is simply not very cosy, practical, and comfortable. Imagine people going to a buffet or having people wait on the tables if they cannot pass the sitting guests.

CombiTents – the most versatile marquee solution

Are you going to arrange different events with a varying number of people attending? Then our CombiTents could be the perfect solution. Our CombiTents is the result of many years’ experience with designing and developing marquees for various purposes. The CombiTents must be the most versatile and flexible marquee solution on the market as it can change size from event to event because it is divided into sections. This way it is possible to make a different size marquee every time with just one marquee – just pitch the number of sections you want!

Safety is an important part of your marquee experience

When securing your marquee or storage tent with storm straps, you need to calculate with app. 2-3 metres extra on all four sides of the marquee so you have room to stretch out the storm straps and secure them at the ground pegs. You can also secure the straps to firm objects like buildings, large trees or similar. Please be aware that severe pulls will occur in case of wind so you must only secure the straps to solid and stable objects! We normally recommend 4 storm straps for marquees under 8 metres and 6 straps for marquees over 8 metres. Always check the weather forecast before putting up a marquee!

Maintaining your marquee

In general, you do not have to do anything to maintain your marquee. Follow the instructions about handling the marquee – do not put it up in bad weather, do not fold in when wet or in degrees below zero etc.– and you and the marquee will be fine. However, accident do occur but do not despair – we offer a range of spare parts and more to help you keep your marquee up and running. You can have a piece of PVC to repair a tear or a hole in the cover and spare parts if you lose a part of the frame. We even have a repair set with eyelets, screws, a piece of PVC, glue and some tools. Then you are ready! If you need another spare part, go to the shop and find the relevant marquee – here you can find a list of spare part to order so you can use your marquee for even longer. We also have various bags for storing and transporting your marquee.
